I was looking for an easy series to tackle this evening after work. Unusually, I chose some caches in Essex at the last minute – which nearly had me unstuck because I had the Hertforshire PQ loaded on my GPS!
I had decided upon looking for the remaining seven unfound caches along the Essex Way Reborn section (Willingale to Good Easter) by PeCeH.
Thankfully there was just enough phone signal when I arrived at the start point to the south of Good Easter, and I was able to hastily download the waypoint info – but I forgot the hints!
I remembered some of the locations from the first time around, but a couple caused me more trouble than I would have liked!
At least I managed to get them all, so no revisit required another day. That has connected the chain of smileys on this reborn section now, which is very pleasing.
I headed towards Good Easter, High Easter and Pleshey for my tupperware hunting today. First on the list was a revisit to an old friend, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum… since I was passing I thought I would take a look for it again. It’s been in the wild since December 2002 – and is one of the oldest caches in Essex.
Next I headed for the Bridge Too Far to make a waypoint and work out the location of A Funny Thing Happened Returning From The Forum. I’ve been to the bridge before, so finding it was no problem.
I’m pleased that my guess at GZ was only about 10m out. I widened my search and then found the perfect place for a cache – and there it was!
Then I moved on to High Easter and did a circular walk of about 3 miles to pick up 3 more Trads. My final stop was the only Trad in Pleshey which I haven’t been able to find, twice DNF’d before… The CO had taken pity on me and given me a big hint and this time it was quickly in my sticky paws.
Having been couped up for the past few days with lurgy and only feeling like doing short walks until now, I decided to tackle another stretch of The Essex Way between Berners Roding (No. 093) and High Easter (132) today.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to do the whole section (which joins two which I’ve already completed) but you know how it is – just one more. In the end the total was 40 Essex Way caches bagged and another five trads along the route, with no DNF’s. Yay!
I also passed another milestone today – 3600 finds with Essex Way #101. I’m well on the way to the big 4K now.
