Corvine Trio

Puzzle: 3
Walked: 1.8 miles

I’ve been banging my head against a few more of Mr Crow‘s evil Rally Round puzzles recently. I finally had two more cracked, and was pretty sure of a third, so I set off for Tiptree today to see what I could find.

The first was RR212 – Unproven Conjcture which I had sorted out rather quicker than anticipated. No trouble with the find. Next on my list was RR218 – Disdyakis Triacontahedron. Yes, that’s a mouthful.

The “solve” entailed playing an online betting game enough times that you eventually came out “on top”. Well, thankfully no money was changing hands, or I might have been bankrupt! But eventually I beat the odds and was taken to a most intriguing location. I won’t say much more, but it’s a wonder how Mr Crow finds these hidden gems! A bit of poking about soon produced the goods.

After my two certs, there was just RR213 – Brouwer left. This intriguing geo-spacial puzzle can be solved mathematically, but stuff that for a game of soldiers! I used some Ninja Photoshop skills which produced a loose plot worth looking at. Thankfully, it wasn’t too long before I had this delightful little duckie in hand!

Day #352 – Walking On Water

Trad: 4 Earth: 1 Event: 1
Walked: 6.3 miles

I had a meeting in London this afternoon, so I went up earlier in the day with Alistair so we could grab a few boxes beforehand. It started well enough, with us finding a couple of the Lost River Fleet series north of the Thames.

Then we crossed Blackfriars bridge to look for Father Thames & The Mermaid. Good job it was low tide, as access was only from the river bank beach!

I did the admin while Alistair explored the detritus on the beach.

The log was rather soggy, but I managed to make our mark.

Then it started pelting with rain. Of course! (Alistair is convinced I’m a Rain Goddess as it frequently rains while we are out caching together). We needed to complete the tasks for the nearby Earthcache too, so we sheltered under the jetty while gathering the information we needed.

See, he’s still smiling (sort of), even though it’s raining!

Eventually it stopped so we headed towards Westminster. Along the way, we found a bargain BOGOF, two pots for the price of one, at West End Trail – Bridges and Statues (2).

Then it was time for my meeting, so Alistair went off to explore the Thames Flood Barrier, while I sat in an office along Millbank watching the river go by and listening to my colleagues debating various stuff. Eventually, the work bit was done, and I arranged to meet up with Alistair again at Blackfriars Bridge.

We headed south of the river once more to attend the London Event: Over from Hanover @ River Thames in a nearby pub. Camilla the Camel came to say hello, she seemed very friendly but slightly perturbed that her glass was empty.

Alistair met another duck – he’s always a bit wary, given the capers he’s had with Mr Duck over the years!

Lots of chatter and a few pints later, we staggered away to get the train home.

Day #259 – Back In Gillywig Country

Trad: 5 Multi: 1 Puzzle: 6 Event: 1
Walked: 9.2 miles

The main reason for heading to deepest gillywig country today was to attend another of Mr Geotrowel’s silly events, this time in Eight Ash Green. There were flying saucers! But sadly I missed them as I was a bit late arriving, having got caught up in caching on the way.

My other finds before the event were mostly gillywig puzzles. I had a few on the solved-not-found pile, one or two of which I had previously DNF’d. But I managed to locate all but one today, so not bad.

I very nearly DNF’d 297mm x 210mm twice today! But just as I thought I was completely losing the plot, the pesky duck finally showed itself!

After the meetup, I took a longer drive around to try and locate the six Knights in geotrowel’s Grail Quest series. I was doing well, bagging four, but my luck ran out, finally, just as the sun was setting. The last two, and their secrets which will unlock the bonus, will have to wait for another day!
