Walked: 5.6 miles
I’ve had a bunch of caches around Elstree on my to do list for a while now, but I’ve mostly been saving them as “emergencies” for keeping my streak going. However, as I’m now nearing the end of my stint working in the town, I figured it was time to go and pick them up today.
There were some tricky hides amongst the group, but I managed to find all but one – which I strongly suspect is missing anyway. So far so good. However, it had been raining hard all day before I set out and although it had stopped by the time I was walking, everything was still soaking wet.
I had to traipse through several patches of sodden, knee-high grass, and before long my jeans were wet through. The fabric just seemed to wick the water down into my poor wellies. By the time I got around the circuit, they was squelching badly. I had to stop to empty out the boots before finally getting back to the car! Urgh!
I have tried drying them out at home, but to be honest, they have probably had their day now – there’s virtually no tread left on the bottom and the insides are rather nasty, even with the gel insoles I’ve been using in them. So, time to shop for new boots, I think! 🙁
