I left it a bit late to go out this afternoon, but eventually pulled myself together and headed to Sheering to do the 10-cache loop there, plus a couple of Church Micros on the way.

It all began well, with some pleasant terrain and easy caches to find.

The paths here were well-defined and I could easily see where I needed to go!

Part of the route was along the Stort Valley Way, which has some nice dragonflies on the waymark signs.

Of course, when I was at the point furthest from the car (and not worth retracing my steps), the heavens opened. Rain, rain, rain – and thunder rumbling in the distance! Plus two very tricky hides which had me grovelling on my hands and knees to find. Argh!

After failing to find the bonus cache for the series, which was rather frustrating, I reluctantly headed out of the woods – only to be met with a lashing hail storm. I had to carry on walking, but the crunchy rain was battering my head in a painful manner!

If that wasn’t bad enough, I then had a very scary half-hour drive home in the continuing thunderstorm – it was the worst rain I’ve ever had to drive in, and there were several big flash floods on the A-roads where I wasn’t sure if I would make it through! Slow and steady won the day, and I was mightily relieved to finally arrive home, soggy but safe!
