Day #166 – Sarf Of The River

Trad: 3 Challenge: 14
Walked: 8.5 miles

The folks in Kent love setting challenge caches, and I have been researching quite a few over the past few months to see if I qualify for logging them. If not, I’ve been working on getting the required finds to complete each challenge. There were a couple of clusters around Ebbsfleet and Swanley which I decided to go and pick up today, in a daring raid sarf of the river.

This year one of my geocaching goals is to attack my DT grid in a big way (at the moment it’s all D and no T), and the happy coincidence of the caches I had planned for today was the prospect of filling up 5 juicy DT squares (the ones in yellow below).

The first find took a little bit of searching, in the Numbers Challenge series near Ebbsfleet. The last one was near some big earth moving machines – so I got to observe boys playing in the dirt!

While I was in the area, I also picked up a few traditional hides which were along the route. Some were less soggy than others!

Having completed my to do list around Ebbsfleet, I moved on to Swanley where I picked up another three high DT combinations, making a success at all five of my DT targets. In total I bagged 14 challenge caches as well, which also met another two challenge cache criteria (find 10 challenge caches, and find 10 in a day). I also completed a day with all nine D1-D5 ratings, which set me up for another challenge to pick up later. So all in all a very worthwhile outing!

There are plenty more Challenges for which I qualify in Kent, so I’ll be back. Watch this space.
